A local man, who has helped numerous local farmers by sharing biologically based farming techniques, was recently presented with the 2020 Al Smith “Friend of Agriculture” award. Sam Earnshaw, who is currently a Technical Service Provider for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (which is an agency within the United States Department of Agriculture) is currently working on the design and installation of hedgerows, grassed waterways, filter strips and riparian restoration on farms. He has been planting conservation plantings on farms since 1996, and is the author of Hedgerows for California Agriculture: A Resource Guide.
