Friday Deadline for Proposed New CA Laws 05-28-19 17:55 DC 2

Friday is the deadline for California lawmakers, who must pass a host of proposed new laws if they are to have a chance of becoming law.

The California Assembly and Senate have until Friday to either pass or reject bills that originated in the other chamber. If they survive, those proposals would then move on for consideration by lawmakers in the other chamber.

Some of the proposals up for consideration include:

AB 1611, which would ban insurers from charging out-of-network prices for those with health insurance. This is intended to stop surprise big bills for emergency room visits.

AB 392, which would redefine police use-of-force requirements.

AB 1482, which would prevent rent spikes for certain tenants.

AB 5, which would extend workers’ rights and benefits to drivers of Uber and Lyft.

AB 1395, which would limit how companies could use data collected from smart speakers like Alexa and Echo.

AB 44, which would create a statewide ban on band on the sale of fur products.
