Flex Alert Now In Effect 10-01-20 17:51 DC

California’s Independent System Operator has issued a Flex Alert for Thursday as high energy demand is expected while temperatures are hot.

The Flex Alert started Thursday from 3 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m.

Santa Cruz County has issued the following guidance:

Between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.

  • Set air conditioning to 78 degrees or higher, if health permits
  • Avoid using major appliances
  • Turn off all unnecessary lights
  • Unplug devices or turn off power strips
  • Close blinds and drapes
  • Limit time the refrigerator is open

The last time Cal-ISO issued a Flex Alert was during Labor Day weekend, when higher-than-average temperatures contributed to a strain on the state’s power grid.
