California’s Independent System Operator has issued a Flex Alert for Thursday as high energy demand is expected while temperatures are hot.
The Flex Alert started Thursday from 3 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m.
Santa Cruz County has issued the following guidance:
Between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.
- Set air conditioning to 78 degrees or higher, if health permits
- Avoid using major appliances
- Turn off all unnecessary lights
- Unplug devices or turn off power strips
- Close blinds and drapes
- Limit time the refrigerator is open
The last time Cal-ISO issued a Flex Alert was during Labor Day weekend, when higher-than-average temperatures contributed to a strain on the state’s power grid.
