Firearm theft is on the rise in Santa Cruz County. According to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office reported gun thefts have been climbing since 2015 with 52 thefts, to 2016 with 60 stolen guns and 91 in 2017. Although most firearm thefts are related to improper storage practices it is unclear why there have been increases in firearm burglaries.
