Fire Prevention Week kicked off this week. This year’s theme for Fire Prevention Week 2010, which began on Monday, is “Smoke Alarms, A sound you can live with”. Cal-Fire officials suggest the following the tips to update and maintain home smoke alarm protection:
-Install smoke alarms on every level of the home, outside each sleeping area.
-Check smoke alarm batteries every month.
-Change smoke alarm batteries twice a year when changing clocks for daylight savings time.
-Plan and practice your family’s home emergency escape plan together several times a year.
-Make sure emergency telephone numbers are accessible.
-Obtain and learn how to use a fire extinguisher.
