Family and cat saved from Salinas housefire 1-9-20 02:53 DC

A Salinas family and their cat are safe this morning after a fire tore through their Corral de Tierra neighborhood home Wednesday afternoon.

The blaze in West Salinas appeared to extend from the fireplace into the home’s attic. First arriving firefighters reported heavy smoke and flames from the Pleasant Valley Lane home.

One person was inside the home when the blaze started but escaped uninjured. Firefighters also rescued an orange tabby cat, likewise uninjured.

The 2:30 PM blaze took about an hour for 20 firefighters to bring under control. Crews remained on-scene after dark doing mop-up operations.
