The mother of a victim of sexual contact by a 20 year-old man wants the legal proceedings against the suspect to be expedited. Now-22 year-old Shawn Michael Cox faces numerous charges related to his alleged sexual interactions with minors. Since proceedings started in April 2017, there have been 26 court dates (with several trial dates vacated, and a number of attempts to settle the case without resolution). The mother went on to say that these legal delays have led to her daughter’s continued anxiety, and lack of peace of mind. Cox is currently due back in a Santa Cruz County Court Room April 29th, for a hearing to determine whether his mental-health merits treatment, instead of incarceration.
