Increasing numbers of malnourished Pelicans are being found in inland areas around the Central Coast. Wildlife Emergency Services have received calls reporting the emaciated sea birds as far away from the coast as the San Benito dump above Hollister. It is being speculated that warm weather has caused Sardine schools, a primary food source for Pelicans, to move to deeper cooler waters, causing the birds to search for other food supplies. Anyone that spots a Pelican out of its normal habitat is asked to call Wildlife Emergency Services at 1 866 wild 911.
