Some residents of Salinas’ Chinatown, an area popular with the homeless, say they have no place for their trash after the city recently removed the dumpsters it used to provide. City officials say the dumpsters were being misused by individuals and businesses who brought in their own trash rather than pay for disposal services. They say trash is now being collected off the street one or twice every couple of weeks. Some residents say they haven’t seen the collections, but the city says they are taking place.
