Delta Fire Update and Background 09-07-18 08:20 DC

The Delta fire is one of 17 major wildland fires currently burning in California. CAL FIRE director Ken Pimlott told legislators on Thursday that his agency has already spent $432-million of its budget and has only about $10-million left. Pimlott asked for an additional $234-million for CAL FIRE this year.

Separately, insurance commissioner Dave Jones said insured residential and business losses from two major fires this summer have reached $845-million.

That compares to $12.8 billion in losses last year.

The L-A Times reports that 17 of the 20 most-damaging fires in California history have occurred after September 1st. So, fire season may still have some time to go.
