(10:49) MONTEREY – The Presidio of Monterey canceled their prescribed burns at Fort Ord this year. The Army’s program is part of their munitions cleanup initiative, and encourages the recovery of fire-dependent plant species. The Army initially planned to burn 476 acres near Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca; However, the requirements for the prescribed burns were not met. The combination of unfavorable weather conditions, wind speeds, and lack of resources would have made it difficult to conduct the burn safely. Prescribed burns at Fort Ord are expected to resume next year. (C.G.)
