20-25 homes were damaged by mudflows from the River Fire burn scar, including some where the mud went inside the homes. They are on the 800 to 13-hundred blocks of river road. After shifting south toward Big Sur and the Dolan Fire burn scar, yesterday morning, the atmospheric river moved back north toward the Monterey Peninsula and Salinas in the early afternoon. First responders patrolled the River Road area to check on residents who stayed behind, and assist those impacted by the mudflows. As of Wednesday afternoon, the S.P.C.A. of Monterey County was caring for 41 evacuated pets, including nine dogs, 14 cats, 17 horses and 1 donkey.
Another system is expected to move into the area Saturday but the forecast calls for most of the rain to fall north of the Monterey Bay.
