A pair of new laws governing the use of deadly force will take effect on the 1st. AB 392 changes the stands for use of deadly force by a peace officer to an imminent threat of death. The other law is SB 230 from Central Coast Sen. Anna Caballero affects training policies. SB 230 requires law enforcement agencies to rewrite use of force policy. It will require departments to provide guidelines on use of force, de-escalation techniques and other deadly force alternatives.
