The woman killed in yesterday’s fatal SmartCar collision has been identified. 60-year-old Cynthia Carey of Mt Herman died in the accident, which occurred about 10:15 AM Tuesday at the intersection of Clares Street and 41st Ave in Capitola.
Police say Carey was stopped at the signal light at the intersection when her vehicle was rear-ended by a van. The collision pushed Carey’s electric vehicle into a Metro bus. Eight passengers and the bus driver were not injured. The van driver reported minor injuries while Carey was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the van driver is cooperating with the investigation and drugs and alcohol are NOT believed responsible for the accident.
