Computer Repair Scam – 11/3/14 19:12 P.S.

The Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office is warning residents of a computer repair phone scam. Hackers posing as Microsoft employees are reportedly calling homes claiming to see a virus on the victim’s computer. They will proceed to ask for permission to access the computer remotely, and will then charge the victim for supposedly fixing the computer. Known computer manufacturers like Microsoft, or Dell do not make unsolicited cold calls offering service, nor will they ask you to make payments via Pre-paid cash card. The public is encouraged to report phone scams to the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Consumer Affairs Office at (831) 454-2050.
