Coastal Clean Up 9/18/20 7a Ci

Tomorrow, Saturday is the annual coastal clean up day… but in the age of Covid 19 this year’s clean up will be different.

 Last year, the clean up brought more 74-thousand people to waterways to pitch in and pick up trash with organized groups handing out trash bags and recording what kind of junk they found.

This year tho, volunteers are asked to still get out and pitch in but they’re being asked to bring their own trash bags to their favorite body of water.

 Volunteers are also asked to keep their social distance to one another and to wear masks and gloves. There’s also an app called “clean swell” that allows folks to record the litter they’ve collected.

 From 1988 to 2016, the most common item collected was the cigarette butt – more than 7.5 million of them statewide,
