A lawsuit, claiming clergy sexual assault , has been filed against both the Diocese Of Monterey, and Palma High School. The plaintiffs said they were assaulted by Father Gerald Funcheon in the mid-1980’s. Funcheon is accused of sexually assaulting children in several states….including Indiana, Minnesota, Hawaii, And California. Lawyers say Father Funcheon has admitted to sexually assaulting at least 18 children, but that the actual number may be as high as 50….with several possibly occurring in Salinas. The lawsuit also accuses the school of employing at least 4 other clergy members accused of sexual abuse.
