With the state law dictating that city council members have to approve ‘housing projects that comply with local zoning rules’, the Santa Cruz City Council’s approval of the demolition of the Circle Church (to make room for at least 10 new homes)….was a foregone conclusion. Still, some neighbors say that because the 61 year-old church is in the “center” of the Circles Area, that property should be a community space, not private residences. The development group is not allowed to tear down the church, until they have a grading permit in-hand.
