Less than 2 months after withdrawing it’s application for permit for a desalination project, Cal-Am has re-filed its application. Although some changes have been made to the project, the issues that led to Marina City officials opposing it have reportedly not yet been resolved. Although the desal project is one of a number of projects designed to offset pumping water from the Carmel River (which has been an issue for years), Cal-Am officials have acknowledged that the desal project cannot be completed by the end of 2021 when the deadline for the Carmel River Pumping Cutback Order is set to take full effect.
