While containment is the metric used for figuring out when a wildfire could come to a halt, many are still unaware of the term. Boulder Creek Fire Department Fire Chief Mark Bingham explains what containment means and how it pertains to the CZU Lightning fire…
“First you have a perimeter around the fire, so we checked that box [for the CZU August Lightning Complex Fire] fairly early on into the first week or so”, Bingham said.
“There’s a whole lot of work that has be put in to make sure that hazards and infrastructure are being handled and safe for people to return to their homes. And on top of that, we have to make sure the fire is out.”
Fire Chief Bingham also mentioned that his department receives on average twenty calls per day for service.
