Although the annual Mavericks Big Wave Surf Contest is not taking place this year, however Big Wave Surfers have gathered and are surfing the big waves and long swells in the area of Mavericks this week. The current High Surf Advisory will remain in effect through today.
Even though the specific day/traditional ‘heat format’ event won’t be taking place, the inaugural Maverick’s Surf Award will span the whole season. Surfers and videographers will submit videos on the event’s site….and the awards ceremony will take place in May in Half Moon Bay. For a place that’s historically exclusive, the venue is wide open to ALL surfers this year.
