August 8, 2016: Soberanes Fire is 45 Percent Contained

(07:00) Monterey – Efforts to contain the Soberanes Fire have been slow and steady over the weekend.  The wildfire grew by nearly 2,500 acres overnight Thursday.  The fire continued to burn Friday in steep and inaccessible terrain.  As of today the fire has grown to 60,400 acres and is 45 percent contained.  The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office lifted the evacuation orders for Garrapata Troute Farm Road and Weston Ridge Road Saturday night.  Evacuation orders for portions of the Cachagua and Tassajara areas have been downgraded to evacuation warnings.  Nason Road and Palo Colorado Road and the driveway north of Garrapata Trout Farm Road remain under an evacuation order.  Cachagua Road between Nason and Trampa Canyon roads also remains under an evacuation order.  Since igniting July 22, the wildfire burning between Carmel Valley and Big Sur has destroyed 57 homes and resulted in one fatality and injuring the others.
