(10:30) Scotts Valley – Students in the City of Scotts Valley will receive help from police officers as they travel to and from school. The “Operation Safe Passage” is a program that was designed to assign extra officers to school zones in the beginning part of the school year. The operation is aimed to catch traffic violators and keep the students safe. Officers will be focusing on motorists who are breaking the following violations: Speeding, failing to yield to pedestrians, jaywalking, juvenile bicyclists without required helmets or not properly worn, seat belt and child restraint seat violations, cell phone and texting violations, and stop sign violations. The “Operation Safe Passage” will start tomorrow (Wednesday) and go through September 2.
