(18:21) SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – A local woman has been trying to help out the decreasing Monarch Butterfly population, especially after she heard about the recent steep decline in that species. Yesterday, Diane Rose, who lives in the Live Oak area of Santa Cruz, released 100 monarch butterflies, that she had raised from eggs…..and that’s only half of the ones she has released since last spring. Environmental groups have petitioned the U.S. Fish And Wildlife Service to list the insect as Endangered, and the agency has said it will decide by 2019.
