The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports that at least 17 people were arrested during a stand-off between hundreds of demonstrators and dozens of police Wednesday afternoon at the intersection in front of UC Santa Cruz’s main entrance.
The arrests took place on Day Three of a wildcat strike by graduate students. The labor action has not been authorized by UAW Local 2865 which represents student workers across the UC system.
The strike is part of a months-long campaign calling for a cost-of-living adjustment for teaching assistants who say they cannot afford the cost of living in Santa Cruz.
