County officials this week accepted a study that recommends some form of merger between central fire and the Aptos-La Selva fire departments. The consultant’s report follows an 8-month study and precedes what those involved says are likely to be years of work before any merger takes place.
Proponents say the merger could save tax money by reducing duplication between the two departments. But the consultant noted that “recent political turmoil” and differences in community desires and expectations might work against a merger. Which, in any case, is likely to be years in the future.
