An Aptos resident set a trap in order to catch a serial burglar in the act. The residents’ guest house had been broken into on several occasions and they suspected a former tenant of the crime. The residents installed motion sensor surveillance cameras and placed fake 100 dollar bills inside of the locked guest house. The residents were alerted by the motion sensor of the video and observed the burglar in the act. They alerted the Sheriff’s Office and deputies surrounded the area. The burglar, Alfonso Lopez, was found hiding in his vehicle down the street in possession of the fake money. Lopez was arrested for burglary and booked into the County Jail.
