(07:05) SANTA CRUZ – Authorities have released the name of a man who committed suicide during a standoff with Santa Cruz police over the weekend. On Saturday night, police responded to a report of a hit and run crash on Mission and Swift streets. Officers were eventually led to the home of the hit and run suspect, 52-year-old John Blinkenberg. When police arrived, Blinkenberg barricaded himself inside his Beachview Avenue residence. Shortly after, gunshots rang out from inside the home, prompting officers to secure the area. Around 1 a.m. Sunday, officers broke into the home and found Blinkenberg dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. (S.G.)
