(21:02) MONTEREY BAY – Dungeness crabs are selling for 6-8 dollars a pound now, and local crab fisherman say the tasty crustaceans are generally weighing in at about a pound-and-a-half to 2-pounds each. Although the local crabs were declared safe to eat as early as February, the local Dungeness Crab Season wasn’t opened until the crabs north of Point Reyes were declared safe as well. The Dungeness Crab Season was delayed for 4 months while there was a high level of Domoic Acid (a naturally occurring toxin) in the Dungeness Crab off the coast of California. The toxin does not harm the crabs, but it is problematic for humans.
