(07:24) WATSONVILLE – The Elkhorn Slough Foundation has announced that it will be purchasing the Sand Hill Farm property with a grant from the California State Coastal Conservancy. At its most recent meeting, the conservancy authorized a disbursement of over $1.5 million to the nonprofit for the acquisition of the parcel, which connects the slough to a stretch of ESF-protected lands. The 107-acre Sand Hill Farm property includes a working farm and 25 acres of environmentally fragile habitat. Under the terms of the disbursement, the ESF must raise an additional $440,000 to secure the protection of the parcel. For more information or to make a donation, visit elkhornslough.org . (S.G.)
