A bill has been signed into law that would restrict the use of certain rat poisons. AB-1788 bars the general use of so-called, 2nd-generation anti-coagulant rodenticides. The highly potent S-GARS prevent clotting, and that causes rodents (including squirrels and gophers) to die from internal bleeding. The chemicals linger in the dead bodies….creating a risk to predators and scavengers that the eat those rodents…such as Great-Horned Owls, Bobcats, Mountain Lions….and endangered California Condors and San Joaquin Kit Foxes. As well as domestic pet dogs and cats.
