A whale entanglement rescue effort has been launched. A group of marine rescuers was assembled after receiving a report of an adult humpback whale with steel cable and possibly a buoy wrapped around its body near the blowhole and flippers. The whale was spotted feeding in a group about 2 miles off of the Santa Cruz Coast yesterday (Thursday) morning. The last rescue performed by the Whale Entanglement Team was on February 17th when rescuers freed a humpback wrapped in fishing line.
