7 California Condors are set to be released next month in San Simeon. They will be a welcome addition to the central coast area after the Dolan Fire destroyed the condor sanctuary in Big Sur. 9 Condors and 2 Condor chicks-still-in-their-nests are believed to have perished, when the wildfire burned through the sanctuary during the overnight hours of August 20th into 21st. The 7 Condors scheduled to be released next month were raised at San Diego Zoo Global.
