De-escalation tactics are vital in ensuring accountable policing, especially when dealing with potentially dangerous suspects.
In an interview with KSCO, Santa Cruz Police Chief Andy Mills highlights some of these tactics.
“We have equipped all of our vehicles with less-lethal munitions. We’ve given them training on how to use the tactics in order to not use lethal force. We have a tiered system: we use Time, Talk, and Tactics”, Andy said.
Chief Mills went on to say that every situation is different, and his officers must “think on their feet”.
