The City of Gonzales has issued an executive order ordering fines against people who violate face covering orders.
The new fines apply to people who are in business, at work, or around other people. It went into effect immediately.
The city said law enforcement may issue warning notices instead of citations for first-time offenders and will distribute face coverings if needed.
The fine for a first violation is set at $100, the second is $500 and all violations after that are subject to a $1,000 fine.
