Monterey-Salinas Transit has broken ground on a new facility that is expected to bring 190 jobs to South County.
Mayor Mike LeBarre said the new maintenance and operations center in King City provide more access to public transit for South County residents in addition to creating jobs.
The South County Operations and Maintenance Facility will serve transit vehicles in the area as well as 35 staff in maintenance, administrative, and bus driver positions.
In total, MST says the project will bring 190 jobs to South County through direct and indirect activities.
The project is expected to cost about $13.5 million, and funding comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration, State of California SB 1 funds, TAMC Measure X, and local funding. The facility is expected to open in September, 2021.
