The California Department of Pesticide Regulation recently released a report on alternatives to the pesticide Chlorpyrifos.
Sarait Martinez, the organizing director for Pesticide Reform, talks about why this pesticide is dangerous, and why California is banning it at the end of this year…
“[Chlorpyrifos] is a family of organic phosphates. It is linked to terrible permanent damage.”
“It was supposed to be banned on the national level during the Obama Administration. Once we got the Trump administration into the office, the ban got kicked off in 2017”, Sarait stated.
Martinez went on to state that this pesticide is allowed to be used in “granular” form with various fruits and vegetables grown in California.
