The Cabrillo College Board of Trustees will consider changing their name at a meeting tonight after notifying their staff on Friday night following a grassroots movement calling out Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, the person in which the community college is named for.
Opponents of the resolution say it is impossible to find evidence that such a name change will make the college more welcoming, mentioning the name change will be costly as websites and signage would need updating.
The Board of Trustees Retreat is where discussing the possibility of a name change takes place.
Discussion on the subject takes place at 5 PM tonight virtually through a Zoom video conference.
