Scientists up at U.C.S.C. are working to create a testing lab, that can provide results of Covid-19 tests in 24 hours. Molecular biologists and genomics experts there hope to have the lab up and operational (and federally approved) in 3 to 6 weeks. Santa Cruz county residents (who work in high-risk professions, such as medical workers, first responders, cashiers, and food delivery workers) would then be able to get the swab test done at the on-campus health center, and lab workers would be able to provide test results for up to 1,000 tests per week.
