The Southern Sea Otter numbers are on the rise on the Central Coast. The endangered species which was estimated to number less than 50 a century ago has been thriving in the Monterey Bay and in the Elkhorn Slough. There are over 3 thousand otters in the bay with close to 2 hundred in the slough. Currently there are an estimated 18 otter pups in and around the slough.
