There have been a number of injuries reported recently at Cowell Beach in Santa Cruz. They’ve been linked with overcrowding in the narrow “take-off zone”. Because of those and other issues, city fire officials have an agreement with State Parks and Cal Fire to provide water rescue along the North Coast. During that time, there are 70 seasonal lifeguards on call.
