2 local students have joined nearly 600 other students, to take part in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Maryland. Samuel Low is in the 8th grade at Washington Middle School in Salinas; and Owen Mercer is in the 8th grade at Scotts Valley Middle School. The 3rd round of the Spelling Bee is taking place today and tomorrow, with the final rounds on Thursday. The final rounds of the Spelling Bee will be televised on Thursday beginning at 7:00 a.m. on ESPN2, with the finals starting at 5:30 p.m. Local time on ESPN.
