Santa Cruz County Supervisors have endorsed a state bill that would, if approved, lower the statewide marijuana tax. AB-286 would lower the Cannabis Excise Tax from 15 to 11 percent (until June of 2022). The bill appears, at least in-part, to be a response to the fact that tax revenue from legal sales has fallen short of expectations, both locally and statewide.
