A former student is suing a UC Santa Cruz professor over a sexual assault that allegedly took place in 2013.
28-year-old Anneliese Harlander claims History of Consciousness Professor Gopal Balakrishnan assaulted her following a party at which the suit claims both consumed alcohol. The suit, filed Monday in Oakland, seeks medical expenses and damages for Harlander’s pain and suffering.
Balakrishnan has been on paid leave since late 2017 and earns more than $110,000—a-year. He denies the allegations.
