The Santa Cruz City Council last night scaled-back a developer’s request to build 40 new apartments near Graham Hill Rd and the Ocean Street Extension. After hearing from 40 speakers last night, half supporting and half opposing the development, the Council cut the project to 32 units. Neighbors wanted the City to follow its own General Plan, which called for 9 residences on the 2.4-acre property. Those neighbors are upset over the development’s impact on traffic, while proponents talk about the importance of creating new housing in Santa Cruz.
