A south Monterey county man will be sentenced to more than 6 years in prison in October. That after 22 year-old Devonte Sirwet pleaded “No Contest” to luring the family dog out of the house, dousing it with lighter fluid, and lighting the dog on fire. The dog was found later that day, still alive (but with burns over more than 90 percent of his body). Kato was later humanely euthanized, due to the severity of the damage he suffered. Sirwet said he burned the dog because he was mad at his mother for making him move out of the family home due to his anger issues.
