Last year saw a 4 percent increase in the amount of money that crops brought in in Monterey county. The top 10 crops remained the same, with Lettuce and Strawberry leading the way… as usual. The specialized crops that are grown in the Greater Monterey Bay Area are mostly those that need to be picked by hand….and that means that the shortage in farm workers will have a direct impact on Monterey county’s economy. The growing possibility of a trade war with Canada and Mexico would also be problematic those are Monterey county’s top 2 trading partners.
