A fiscal emergency was declared yesterday in the city of Santa Cruz. City Council members are now preparing to place a sales tax increase on the June ballot. If approved by voters, the sales tax in the city of Santa Cruz would go up to 9.25 percent, which would bring Santa Cruz in line with the city of Watsonville….and slightly above the sales tax in the cities of Capitola ands Scotts Valley.
