What is seen as a critical tool for some people is being launched in our tri-county area. Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito counties are gearing up to launch a text-to-9-1-1 service. Although this test to 9-1-1 service will be operational soon, emergency dispatchers still recommend calling them with emergencies (instead of texting) whenever possible.
