Julia Pfeiffer Burns And Andrew Molera State Parks will re-open this weekend for the first time in months. In February, the Big Sur parks were closed because of winter storm damage. The main problems have been the failure of Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge and the landslide at Mudcreek. The Big Sur area has been recovering slowly, and getting to the parks is still a challenge. To drive there, travelers can take Nacimiento-Ferguesson Road and connect to Highway 1, and drive north. People can access Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park from the north, using the bypass trail through Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. A Big Sur Shuttle service (offered by Sur Transportation) provides $10 rides from the parking lot of Andrew Molera State Park to the trail. State Parks crews, and California Conservation Crews, have been working on the Big Sur trails since the storms.
